Timeline
Most people go through life without following their dreams. Through the efforts of many, I have the opportunity to embark on mine.
My plan is to be playing on the PGA tour as an exempt member by 2012. Like a good golf game where I concentrate on making one good swing at a time, this goal can best be accomplished by making one good step up at a time.
There are many paths to the apex of the game and mine will likely begin on the Gateway tour from June through October in south Florida. The Gateway Tour is thirteen tournaments with purses upwards of $153,748 and a tour championship for the top forty players playing for $400,000 ($65,000 for first) in a four day event. I may also continue to hone my skills on the Gateway Tour winter and summer sessions.
One of the shortcuts to the PGA that I will also be testing is through qualifying for, and playing well in the US Open. Qualifying is through a thirty-six hole event. The top players in the second round of qualifying will play in the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego in June.
All tournaments I play in the next several years will help me improve my opportunities to play in the PGA tour by improving my ability to handle tournament challenges. I will attempt to qualify for PGA tournaments where and when I think I have the best chances to qualify while plying the development tours. The ultimate opportunity is to qualify for the tour through Q-school. There are three stages which must be accomplished before you can become one of those who receive their tour card.
I am confident that I have the game to make the top level and through this time line I plan to develop the experience necessary to achieve my dream.
